The Himalayan Foothills Are Popular Pilgrimage Destinations Since Eternity. Most Of The Caves Are Either Explored For Adventure Or Religious Belief. Patal Bhuvaneshwar Is One Such Mystical And Spiritual Place Which Is Located 1350m Above Sea Level. It Is A Limestone Cave And The Entrance To The Cave Goes Through A Long And Narrow Tunnel. Devotees Believe That 33 Crore Deities Are Residents Of The Cave. Worshipping Here Is Regarded As Equivalent To Char Dham Yatra. Though The Central Deity Of The Temple Is Shiva, But Numbers Of Other Deities Are Also Seen Here. Other Wonders Found In This Cave Are Hair Of Lord Shiva, Airavat Of Indra, Tongue Of Kaal Bhairava And Some More. This Mysterious Cave Has Four Entrances And The Entire Cave Is Around 160m Long And 90 Feet Deep.
Berinag is a small place surrounded by hill on all sides. Originally known as Bedi-Nag, it houses about 9 temples all dedicated to Lord Nag or snakes, all worth watching.
An ancient temple belonging to 12th century was constructed under the Chand and Katyuri dynasty. Located in the center of the town, the entrance of the temple is guarded by two idols of Jai and Vijay both holding weapons in their hands.
Located 13 km from Patal Bhuvaneshwar in Gangolihat, Hatt Kalika Temple was created by Adi Shankaracharya. The presiding deity of the temple is Mahakali Shaktipeeth and it is believed the idol of the goddess was shifter here from West Bengal.
One of the most mystical places, Patal Bhuvaneshwar Caves is a mesh of limestone in form of stalactites and stalagmites. These natural wonders resemble the tongue of Kali Bhairav, hairs of Lord Shiva, Aravati or Indra and many others.
The nearest airport to Patal Bhuvaneshwar is Pant Nagara almost 244 km away. Taxis can easily be availed from outside the airport to reach your destination.
Tanakpur serves as the nearest railway station to this small town located at a distance of 154 km. This station is well approached by many major cities of India such as Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata and Agra. Buses and taxis are easily available outside the station for a ride to Patal Bhuvaneshwar.
A well-maintained network of road and state owned and private bus services connect this quaint mystical town to many major cities of Kumaon Region as well as neighbouring states. Buses usually terminate as Pithoragarh, Lohaghat, Champawat and Tanakpur, etc. from where one can hire a taxi or ride the bus to reach the desired destination.
