Places to Visit in Pithoragarh

Chandak:

The imposing Chandak Hills is a famous mountain range in Pithoragarh or ‘Soar Valley’ that offers a stunning view of the gorgeous landscape of this place. Situated about 8 km away from Pithoragarh, Chandak is a small valley that is stretched till Nepal border. The weather at Chandak remains pleasant with comparatively cold nights.

Askot Sanctuary:

Established in 1986, the Askot Musk Deer Sanctuary was created in order to protect the endangered Musk Deer and its habitat. Perched at an elevation of 1600 meters, Askot Sanctuary has a sprawling area of 600 sq km which is blessed with innumerable species of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is located at Askot, which is a small hamlet situated some 54 kms from the Pithoragarh town in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.

Ralam Glacier:

Ralam is a beautiful glacier located in Munsiyari tehsil of Pithoragarh district within Kumaon region of the hill state of Uttarakhand in India.
This magnificent glacier is situated at an elevation of 2, 290 meters above the sea level near Ralam Dhura at Ralam Khal. Glaciological features of Ralam are divided into two - Upper Ralam and Lower Ralam.
Interestingly, three other glaciers meet Ralam glacier. They are kalabaland, sutela and yangchar. The Ralam glacier lies at the base of the great Himalayan wall.

Jhulaghat:

This small town on the Indo-Nepal border is named after a hanging bridge on the Kali River. One can enter Nepal through this bridge. The small market here deals in Nepali goods and other electronic items.

Pithoragarh Fort:

The Pithoragarh fort is located on top of a hill on the outskirts of Pithoragarh. It was built by the Gorkhas back in the year 1789.

    Pantnagar Airport, The Nearest Airport About 2 Hours Away Has Daily Flights From Igi, Delhi Via Air India Regional. But These Flights Are Cancelled On A Regular Basis Due To Bad Weather. The Next Nearest Airport Is Indira Gandhi Airport In Delhi About 11 Hr 34 Min (469.3 Km) Via By Road And Is Connected To All Major Cities.

    Tanakpur Railway Station (Tpu) Is The Nearest Railway Station About 4 Hr 23 Min (147.3 Km) Away From Pithoragarh. Nainital Express And Tanakpur Pilibhit Mg Passenger Are The Two Major Trains Connecting It To Uttarakhand And Parts Of Up. A Pre Paid Cab Can Be Availed From Here To The City.

    Uttarakhand State Buses Runs Regular Buses From All Parts Of Uttrakhand And Nearby Cities. Nh9 Passes Through Here.
